Enabling Middle-Click with Windows 8 on Lenovo ThinkPad X230

To restore classic middle-click functionality on the Lenovo ThinkPad X230 TrackPoint under Windows 8:

1. Open regedit and navigate to:

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\UltraNavPS2
   

   (Note: ensure you are in HKEY_CURRENT_USER, not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE).

2. Change the value of TrackPointMode from 00001214 to DWORD 00002214.

3. Open Windows Mouse Properties, switch to the UltraNav tab, disable the TrackPoint by clearing its checkbox, and click Apply.

4. Using your touchpad or an external mouse, re-check the TrackPoint checkbox and click Apply once more.

Your TrackPoint center button should now function properly as a standard middle-click!
